If i use finishing nails can i nail through my carpet to stop floor boards from creaking?

my hallway creaks and is annoying, but it has wall to wall carpet.If i use finishing nails can i nail through my carpet to stop floor boards from creaking?
yes if this is on the first floor and open in the basement you can also fix it from the bottom. take a 2x2 piece of wood and glue along side of a joist putting glue on both sides of the piece of wood and screw the block to the joist. try not to walk on that area till the glue is dryIf i use finishing nails can i nail through my carpet to stop floor boards from creaking?
Actually you could do this but its not going to last very long at all. first make sure you find the joist and you have long enough nails...the reason for it not lasting long is that a finishing nail has lil to no head on it so eventually it may work its way out. Also if you nail is not long enough make sure your wearing shoes alot....
there is a special tool that allows you to drive a screw through a carpet and into the floorboard and joist...cant think of what it is called right now but i'll see what i can come up with...

Yes, but you need to be able to nail into a floor joist.
