What is the best way of applying dark nail varnish without getting it all on the skin aroun the nails?

What is the best way to apply dark nail varnish? I have just bought a gorgeous nail varnish but i cant seem to put it on as easily as a light one because it keeps going all over my skin. Please help I've grown my nails long for the first time and I am dying to paint them!What is the best way of applying dark nail varnish without getting it all on the skin aroun the nails?
Rub Vaseline on the skin around your nail and paint away! ;)

Make sure the hand you're painting in flat on a surface and that your other hand is steady. To get a smooth finish, start in the middle of your nail and draw a line from the bottom to top. Then do the sides. Your whole nail should be covered in 3 strokes. This makes it a lot easier to paint nails.
Easy! Use three strokes to cover each nail and curve the brush slightly as you apply the two outer ones. Actually, dark nail polish on your cuticles can be scratched off in water easily when its dry!
just paint them asnormaland then dip a q-tip (ear cleaner thingy) in nail polish remover.Dab the bud around the edges of the fingers and this will remove any bits around the finger.I love this tip!
Put your hand somewhere steady, and carefully paint 3-4 strokes on each nail, even if you do get it in skin it will wash off, most of us do!!!
put a clear coat of polish on before the dark one, so the dark doesnt touch your nails.
You get someone with a steady hand to do it for you !!
